Mountain Mission
August 2023
As the Director of the Methodist Mountain Mission since
December of 2000, I am a blessed woman. Over the years, I
have many times thought of the words of Paul to the Church at
Philippi: I thank my God every time I remember you. In all my
prayers for all of you, I always pray with joy because of your
partnership in the gospel from the first day until now, being
confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will
carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.
Philippians 1:3-6
I thank God for calling my husband and I to this beautiful area
in southeastern Kentucky.
I thank God for the many, many wonderful people we have
ministered with in the Hampton and Wolverine United Methodist
Churches.
I thank God for God calling me to be the Executive Director of
the Methodist Mountain Mission.
I thank God for our many employees (usually between 55-60 at
any given time) – many who needed a second chance in life
because of substance abuse or other situations.
I thank God for the many clients who passed through the doors
of our Mission – including the churches and stores – looking for
help, needing a kind face and word, in addition to clothes,
household items, food or something else.
I thank God for the many people we have met who have come to
our area in work groups to help rebuild the homes and lives of
flood survivors.
Lastly (but NOT least of all), I thank God for you – the readers
of this Messenger, the generous givers of financial donations as
well as clothing, household items, furniture, etc. Truly you are in
partnership with us here in the beautiful mountains of eastern
Kentucky.
Blessings,
Karen Bunn
